It looks dark and sinister and something that should be for adults but the Disney logo reminds us of the great childhood fantasy that was the Wizard of Oz film. On the flip side: Having the Disney logo associated with Oz the Great and Powerful is doing that movie a great favour because it reinforces a message that we want to recapture and revisit our childhood. It does not deserve to be considered a flop or a bomb. John Carter succeeded beyond expectations in providing that adolescent escape - it was frankly awesome in that regard. That is exactly what the Disney brand is - I'm not disparaging the Disney brand either - its awesome. The last thing an adolescent wants to do is see a Disney film that suggests to them they are a child or anything younger than they are. The story appeals to adolescents and those wishing to recapture their adolescent state of mind - innocent fantasy - there is nothing wrong with that. Exactly, having the magical kingdom logo in the trailer and associated with the advertising did the movie a disservice.
